This course follows the TCLEOSE curriculum for Basic Instructor Certification.  Students will be required to research, develop, prepare, and instruct lessons on law enforcement related topics.

This course stresses hands-on training of the concepts and techniques required by law enforcement firearms instructors. Course topics include: role of the firearms instructor, range safety, training liability, shooting fundamentals, weapons nomenclature, course development, target analysis, weapons qualification, and firearms range management.

This course enables law enforcement officers to earn their Practitioner Certification in applying the Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) to suspected impaired drivers.

Practitioners must have a Basic Instructor Certification and the 24-hour SFST course prior to entering this program. The SFST instructor will certify for NHTSA SFST training curriculum and permitted to administer the SFST courses for their departments with on-staff instructors.

Police management seeks to select, hire, and train the most highly qualified personnel available. Once selection and hiring are complete, the Field Training Officer serves to facilitate the necessary transition from recruit to competent police officer.

This course is designed to help prepare the new supervisor for their supervisory and leadership role.  Course objectives will include: values, ethics, and principals, communication, leadership styles, planning and organizing, liability issues, civil rights, special investigative issues and other topics.

The first in a series of accident investigation courses to follow the Basic Peace Officer Certification course.

Topics include probable cause, detention and arrest, exceptions to search warrant requirements, search warrant principles and preparation including documentation and components of a probable cause affidavit, suppression hearings, and civil liability. TCLEOSE intermediate core course.

The student will identify objectives, preparation, and procedures for searching a crime scene; diagram crime scene sketches and identify their relationship to photographs; and identify and classify fingerprints, types of impressions, and techniques for locating and developing impressions. Study of the use of force including psychological and emotional factors, "use of force" factors, force options, and deadly force. Also includes legal issues such as civil rights complaints, governmental liability, court decisions, and vicarious liability. TCLEOSE intermediate core course. Includes the use of the firearms training system (F.A.T.S.).

This course certifies operators assigned to the communications division for police departments.  The student will have a basic understanding of telecommunications, relationships with the community and the role of the emergency communications professional as a member of the public safety team.

Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization are offered through a cooperative agreement between the college, employer, and student.  Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience.  Directly related to a technical discipline, specific teaching objectives guide the student.
